Episode XXIV – The Isle of the Yelgri: 15th to 16th Halane, 720TR
After the ambush in the vale, Vermundr scouts ahead while the others tend their wounded and strip the dead of their war-gear. Vermundr finally reaches the head of the trail he has been following from the beach, pulling a short heavily built woman from the underbrush where she had hidden during the ambush.
After burying Skjold with solemn oaths Thorim leads Kourri, Snourri, Kilgi and the female back to the main camp carrying the arms and armour of the Khuzdul. Telen and Vermundr climb up onto the plateau to get the lay of the land; to the north they spot a sheltered valley with cultivated fields and orchards of some kind. They stalk closer and Vermundr spies an old man herding goats. When they reach the edge of the cliff above he realises the old man is an Ivinian, and what’s more he looks very like one of his uncles, lost since the Cape Renda disaster. Another of the short warriors in a black war-net emerges from the woods nearby shouting instructions to the old man. He hustles him out of sight with his goats. They appear to have some kind of hold in the cliff face beneath Vermundr and Telen’s position.
The two scouts withdraw back to the valley of the ambush where they camp for the night. In the morning they return to the camp near Ologi to fill in the others.
